About Ledbury Signal Box
Built in 1885, Ledbury Signal Box has recently undergone a major refurbishment; with new steps, windows and an interior refit. Nevertheless it still retains much character as the interior view below illustrates. The narrow bore of Ledbury Tunnel can be seen through the far window.
The tall box at the far end of the shelf houses the unique Lock and Block signalling equipment used to control the single line between Ledbury and Malvern Wells. The smaller box towards the centre is the more common, GWR Tokenless Block Instrument and this is used to control the now single track section to Hereford.
